Brand new trans comedians at Sydney Fringe!

For me, comedy has been such a good tool in seeing the funny side of transitioning and breaking down shame. So I wanted to share the skill of comedy to other trans folk. Eight trans and gender diverse people, new to comedy, joined me in a 5-week workshop and performed three showcases at Sydney Fringe in Trans Christian Anderson and Friends. The audiences were fabulous - loud, supportive, rolling around with laughter. I was so proud at how far the comedians came in only 5 weeks! Here’s what some of them said about the experience:

‘One of the best things I’ve ever done!’

‘I’ve seen a new joke in everyday life experiences since starting the workshops’

‘It’s given me such a boost. I so rarely feel genuinely good at things. It has made me see myself in a different light.’

‘Now comedy gives me a way to reframe my thoughts and push past barriers - it opens up new angles for creativity and self-expression.’
