Bringing My Trans Comedy Tour to Queensland: Laughter, Community, and Collective Strength
Living in Sydney, I’m sheltered from a lot of the discrimination that so many trans and gender diverse people face across Australia. ‘Passing’ as a man - even though I don’t really see myself as one - adds another layer of safety that many trans folks don’t have access to.
When I started planning my Australian trans comedy tour, I knew I wanted to bring my show - and hopefully some laughter - to Queensland’s LGBTQ+ communities. Trans people and their parents up there are living under a puberty blocker ban, a massive overreach of a ministerial directive. These communities have been out on the streets, campaigning and supporting one another while they fight for the rights of trans teens to access gender-affirming healthcare.
It was an honour to meet people at the show from Magandjin People’s Pride, Dykes on Bikes Queensland, and Free Mum Hugs Australia. They reminded me what collective action really looks like - showing up for each other, standing together, and offering love and support through it all.
That’s exactly what my comedy show I Can Tell is about: connection, resilience, and finding joy even when the world feels heavy. I’m so glad I drove the 22 hours to Brisbane and back - I met people with the biggest hearts.
Next stop on the tour: Sunshine Coast!
